We are pleased to welcome a new group to the House this month. Sue Sutcliffe is hosting a six week Sign Language course for beginners starting on Tuesday, 15 October. As this is now an official language in New Zealand it is good to see it taking on more of a profile.
Each month we have a Community Donation Day when we give the money raised in our shop that day to a local organisation that is helping people in our community. This is part of our goal to respond to community needs. We like to think money raised in this community is spent locally to assist local people.
If you are part of a not-for-profit group helping others in our community, get in touch. We may be able to help you too.
Recently we helped Puhoi Playcentre to renovate their kitchen and Steps Forward to buy a new laptop.
Sustainable Orewa is planning to extend its community garden on our 216 site. Contact them if you are interested in getting involved.
We have also begun a collaboration with HBC Grandparents Parenting Grandchildren who have set up a secondhand school uniform bank in a small office within our administration building on the 214 site. This is run by volunteers and is separate to our normal services. Contact Donna if you have uniforms to donate or need to purchase one for the local schools. hbcgrandparentsinc@gmail.com.
